THE INFLUENCE OF KYNURENIC ACID ON THE CONTENT OF EXCITATORY AND INHIBITORY
MEDIATORS IN RATS WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SEIZURE SUSCEPTIBILITY

L. D. Popova

Kharkiv State Medical University, Ukraine;

The influence of per os administered kynurenic acid on the glutamate, aspartate, glycine and GABA levels in the rat brain areas depended on the initial level of seizure susceptibility. The highest resistance of investigated parameters to the influence of kynurenic acid was found in the cerebellum of rats with low seizure susceptibility. The considerable changes of mediator levels in the rats of this group were found in the brain stem. The same direction of changes in the content of all the investigated mediators with exception of aspartate was found in the brain stem of both groups of rats.

Key words: kynurenic acid, glutamate, aspartate, glycine, GABA.
